Northern Ireland’s Mental Health Champion, Professor Siobhán O’Neill, will host a September conference focusing on suicide prevention.
According to the 2020 Youth Wellbeing Prevalence Survey mental ill health in children and young people in Northern Ireland is 25% higher than neighbouring regions. It also highlighted that one in 10 young people have self-harmed and one in eight have thought about, or attempted, suicide.
Suicide is preventable and we can create hope for our young people by connecting and listening, and providing early interventions at critical points.
The Generation Hope: Youth Suicide Prevention Conference concentrates on how to prevent suicide in young people, discuss the factors that influence suicidal behaviour and show how the inclusion of young people in service development and planning fosters hope and saves lives.
Registration for the conference, which takes place at the MAC in Belfast on 19th September 2022, is now open. Full details, including a conference agenda, are available here.
The conference will also take place online and you can book a place for that here.
